Cafe Drummonds: Ben Ottewell + Zoe Faulkner & Dave Angus

As a singer and lead guitarist in rock band Gomez, Ben Ottewell is well known for his unmistakable voice and talent for blistering and inspired guitar solos. Rolling Stone declared, 'Gomez's not-so-secret weapon is Ben Ottewell. And as GQ Magazine once wrote and anyone listening can attest, '[his] voice is not of this world.

Since his first solo release, Shapes & Shadows (2011), Ottewell has been pleasing audiences with a series of successful acoustic tours across the UK, US and Australia. Now with a newly-recorded album of songs for his second solo project, Rattlebag, the singer is set to return to the road, performing his new music as well as a few Gomez favorites.
Simultaneously stripped-down and lush, Rattlebag is a collection of beautifully poetic tales of salvation and redemption, of sanctuary and braving rocky seas in search of distant shores. Ottewells infectious melodies and bluesy riffs will stick with you, and beg you to sing along.

Dave Angus:
Dave Angus is a local alt-rock singer-songwriter who has been writing and playing music for 5 years, after playing the bass first in a band called The Takeaways. He plays open mics regularly every week and gets gigs around Aberdeen supporting bands across the genres. Previously, he was in a grunge/metal band called Before Cavemen which helped him progress towards more intricate songwriting, which you can hear reflected in his solo stuff.

He incorporates elements of songs he likes in his own music – if he hears a song that he really likes, regardless of genre, he’ll be inspired to write something. He recently released his acoustic album titled Greetings, and is writing more songs for his next album. Dave also performs impromptu sets all over Aberdeen, and claims that the best part about busking is that “whether people throw £20s or kebabs, it’s still feedback!”

Zoe Faulkner:
Zoe Faulkner is a 22 year-old singer/songwriter from Aberdeen, who performs covers and original work of an acoustic/pop genre around Aberdeenshire and Perth. As well as performing in venues over the last three years, Zoë has completed her HND in Music at North East Scotland College and is now working towards her Honours Degree in Popular Music at the University of Highlands and Islands.

Zoe has just released her first EP entitled ‘Voices’, which is available to buy online from retailers such as iTunes and Spotify, and is also available as a physical copy. The five track EP is modern, contains Zoe’s unique voice along with beautiful harmonies and catchy melody lines, which are sure to capture the listener’s attention.

Zoe just released a music video for the song ‘Voices’ in January 2016 after working with On Red studio. The video received an incredible response, reaching 1,000 views in just over a week!
